What brokers will allow me to automate my strategies?

There are several quality brokers that help facilitate trade automation by providing an API. An “API” allows programmers to communicate and send orders through their trading platform. Another option that requires far less programming is to use TradeStation.

Interactive Brokers

This is the broker I use and highly recommend. Their API is very easy to use, especially with java. They also have fairly competitive commissions. The biggest problem with IB is there customer service. However, in the few years I have been with IB, I have never needed to call customer service for any reason.

This is another broker that offers an API. I have never used them so cannot comment on their service.

TradeStation

What is unique about TradeStation is how easy it is for non programmers to use. Getting started with TradeStation can be much quicker, however using a canned program such as TradeStation may not allow you to do all the things you want to do.
